TEDxBarcelonaSalon - urban vitality

About this event :

When designing cities, many aspects are taken into account. Are you also thinking about the “vitality” of the city, the mobility of citizens, the interactions citizens can have with each other, the activities they can do, etc.? Jane Jacobs was the first person to define the term urban vitality. She also gave recommendations on how to design a city to make it more “vital”. But since then much has changed. Our speaker, Irene Gomez Varo applied this concept to today’s needs and to Barcelona. In her talk she will present her results and recommendations.

Irene Gomez Varo holds a degree in Sociology (University of Barcelona) and a Master’s degree in Territorial Population Studies (Autonomous University of Barcelona). She is also a researcher in the Mobility, Transport and Territory Studies Group (GEMOTT) of the Department of Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her lines of research focus on Jane Jacobs’ ideas of urban vitality, public space and quality of life, mobility with a gender perspective and the city of care. Irene Gomez Varo
