TEDxBarcelonaSalon - Coronavirus Makers

About this event :

Coronavirus Makers
Coronavirus Makers is a network of 20,000 volunteers who research, design, and produce ICU respirators, visors, masks, and other sanitary materials. Thanks to the efforts of these volunteers and also thanks to the Open Source concept (= the designs are not protected, anyone can download them and can use them free of charge) it has been possible to produce hundreds of thousands of visors in a short time, something that large companies have not been able to achieve. The volunteers organized among themselves and also produced the visors in a decentralised way: each volunteer at home with 3D printers. This has been a great example of the use of Open Source in hardware. Can this example be a model for other products and solutions in the world of health?

The speaker
Alvaro Jansà is the coordinator of the Coronavirus Makers, a group of more than 16,000 volunteers throughout Spain, dedicated to designing and producing visors, respirators and other tools that can be useful to combat Covid-19. In his talk, he explained what the keys to success have been in producing hundreds of thousands of visors in such a short time.
